Old research pages

I'm keeping these old research pages here for the benefit of anyone who might arrive here from an external page. They are no longer updated. Please visit my new web site at http://sipapu.astro.illinois.edu/~ricker/. Eventually some content from these pages will migrate to the new site.

Dust cloud potential problem

In this problem we compute the potential of an isolated, spherical mass with constant density. The analytic solution is spherically symmetric and is quadratic in radius inside the sphere, 1/r outside the sphere. The coordinate system is arranged so that G=1.

Physics
Self-gravity.

Geometries
3D Cartesian.

Parameters
radius = 1; cloudmass = 1
